Vibe coding, out loud

Vibe coding is describing what you want and letting an editor or agent write the code — steering by intent instead of by keystroke. Voice is a natural fit: you're already talking through the problem, so talk to the editor directly.

The shape of the workflow

Whether you’re working in an editor with an inline AI chat panel, a terminal-based agent, or a browser-based IDE, the pattern is the same: describe the change in natural language, let the tool propose an edit, read the diff, refine. The typing happens in the “describe” step — and that’s the one step that has nothing to do with code syntax. It’s just you, explaining yourself.

One instruction, spoken

checkout.tsx
12function CheckoutSummary({ cart }: Props) {
13 const total = cart.reduce(sum, 0);
14// Show a discount line when a promo code is applied, above the total
15 return (

The comment on line 14 was dictated — spoken as one sentence, landed exactly where the cursor was.

Works with whatever you already use

Halo doesn’t plug into any particular editor, agent, or chat panel. It runs system-wide and types into whatever text field is focused — an inline comment, a chat sidebar, a terminal prompt, a commit message box. If you can click into it and type, you can dictate into it.

Getting started

  1. Install Halo and grant microphone access.

  2. Choose a push-to-talk hotkey that isn’t already bound in your editor.

  3. Click into any comment, chat box, or prompt field, hold the hotkey, and describe the change.

  4. Read the transcript before you act on it, same as you would a typed instruction.

Frequently asked questions

Is vibe coding a Halo feature?

No — it's a general term for describing changes in natural language and letting a tool write the code. Halo is just how you speak that description instead of typing it.

Does Halo write or suggest code itself?

No. Halo only converts speech to text. Whatever agent or editor you're using still does the actual code generation.

Does it work with browser-based editors?

Yes, Halo types into any focused text field, browser tab or native app.

What if I want to switch back to typing mid-task?

You can mix both freely — dictation just inserts text, so typing before, after, or in between works exactly as expected.

Start talking to your editor

Halo runs in the background and works with the editor, agent, or terminal you already have set up.
