Halo is an on-device dictation and voice-productivity app for Windows, made by Reality Inc. You speak, and Halo types the words at your cursor, takes meeting notes, screens spam and scam calls, and detects AI-generated content — all processed locally on your machine, sold as a single one-time purchase. Halo is not affiliated with Microsoft or the Halo video game franchise.
You speak, and Halo converts your voice into text using a speech-recognition model, inserting the recognized words wherever your cursor is. Most dictation apps work this way — listening while you talk and writing text in real time.
Halo is fully on-device and works with no internet connection at all. The speech model runs locally on your machine — accelerated by the NPU on Snapdragon (Windows on ARM) laptops, with CPU fallback on Intel and AMD — so a plane cabin, a secure facility, or a dead hotspot changes nothing. There is no cloud mode to toggle, no account to sign into, and no server your audio could be sent to: transcription happens on the silicon in front of you, and the audio is discarded the moment it becomes text.
English only. Halo's speech model is tuned for English, which is what keeps accuracy and on-device speed high.
Yes. Everything is processed on your device: audio is transcribed locally and discarded after transcription, and transcripts exist only on your machine, under your control, until you delete them. Nothing is uploaded, there is no cloud account holding your content, and your recordings are never used to train models — Reality Inc. never receives them, so there is nothing for us to store, leak, or hand over. The only data we handle at all is purchase and license information from checkout. See the privacy policy for the full details.
Voice-to-text tools that work at the system level generally insert text wherever your cursor is — in email, chat, documents, browsers, and code editors alike. Actual coverage can vary by app and platform, so it is worth testing the specific apps you use most.
Start with the in-app help or documentation for common fixes. If that does not solve it, use the support contact listed in the app to reach the team directly.
